Evaluation - Question 7

7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

By looking at my preliminary task i can see that i have made a huge improvements in my ability to use photoshop. I now know what each of the tools mean and how to use them effectively.

Layout
The layout of my preliminary task was not the most effective for the genre. it didn't look very professional as I hadn't learnt about the different  codes and conventions of different magazine genres. It was a school magazine called 'Astley Weekly' which was written across the top but didn't really show up very well because the sign post was in the way. I leant that the way the information s on the page affects how it is read and makes it easier t harder to read.

Photography
The photographs taken in the preliminary task were taken on a phone and not a camera. This means that the photos are not as good quality as those in my pop music magazine. I found it difficult to place my models in the photos but found inspiration on pint rest. This helped me when making my pop music magazine I have also learnt that there are certain facial expressions that are specific genres of magazine and have used them to help my pop music magazine to fit better into the genre.

Writing
I have leant a lot about how to write an article for a pop music magazine. I have written an article in the style of a pop music magazine. I have got inspiration from other pop music magazines such as Billboard and Top of the Pops. I have found that a formal mode of express is often used in pop music magazines.

Audience
I have learnt  a lot since the preliminary task about how to target a specific audience. I have learnt that certain words and phrases appeal to an audience. I have not used as much specific media language as i feel that my target audience would not understand the words and be put off reading it.

I feel that I have learnt a lot from doing the preliminary task to making my final pop music magazine. I have learnt a lot about the different genres of magazine and what codes and conventions are specifically used in each genre. I have also learnt how to use photoshop to get the best out of my pictures and have developed many new and old skills in using it. How to attract the attention of my potential target audience to buy my magazine has been something that I have done a lot of research into and have developed the skills to know what to out where and what to include so that they will want to read my pop music magazine.

Evaluation Question 5

Evaluation - Question 4

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

My main target audience:

  • Teenagers aged 16-25
  • Both male and female but mostly female
  • Low income
  • Disposable income

My main target audience for my pop music magazine, Pop Monthly, is late teens early twenties, although most pop music magazines are aimed at 11-15 year olds I feel that my pop music magazine will have an older look and feel to it. My target audience will be similar to the target audience of the pop music magazine ‘Billboard’ as I think that my magazine resembles some of the qualities of that magazine more than other pop music magazines, such as ‘Top of the Pops’ or ‘We Heart Pop’. I feel that this target audience will be able to connect better with the stories and stars that are included in my pop music magazine and that it will be of more interest to them than it will to a younger audience.

Evaluation - Question 1

Evaluation

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In my opinion my pop music magazine develops the codes and conventions of real media products of the same category/ product because it follows the same codes and conventions.

I have developed my flat plans to create my pop music magazine that will hopefully appeal to my target audience of late teens early twenties. I have developed my knowledge of the codes and conventions and used them in my magazine.

I have chosen the name ‘Pop Monthly’ as i feel that this links well to the pop genre. I have also used the cover line to attract people to buy my pop music magazine s it gives them an insight into what is going to be in the magazine.
