Potential Target Audience

Potential Target Audience

My potential target audience is 16-25 year olds. This is because I think that my magazine will appeal to this age range. The layout of the magazine has a sophisticated look to it and will appeal to an older audience.

After asking people that are in the age range of my target audience I have decided will not cost to much as it is aimed at younger people who may not have as much money as they mostly only work part-time and don’t earn as much money.

After researching colour schemes in magazines like Billboard, We heart pop and Top of the Pops I have found that magazines aimed at younger people (aged 11-15) have brighter colours, these magazines are We heart pop and Top of the pops. The magazine Billboard has a more sophisticated colour scheme and is aimed more at 16+ year olds. It will have an older colour scheme with colours like blue, red and yellow. This will catch the older audiences eyes and make them want to read the magazine.

After researching different bands that are on the front of pop magazines aimed at the same target I have found that they feature bands of similar age to the target audience. Therefore the band in my magazine will feature people of the same age as my target audience. The band in my magazine are aged 16 and 17 so will appeal to 16-17 year olds most. This is because they are the same age so people will want to read about the lives of others their age.

Costumes

These clothes will appeal to my target audience as they are clothes that they would wear. They are clothes that are in fashion and because they are worn by my models who are off a similar age to my target audience it will appeal more to them.

Brief

I am going to make a music magazine that is aimed at older teenagers. This will have a similar target audience to the Billboard magazine. My magazine will be a pop magazine.

My magazine will have a big picture as the background of the front cover and the name of the magazine will be along the top. The picture will be of the three members of the band ‘Wrong Direction’, with the headline along the bottom. The contents page will have the page numbers and what is on each page in the middle under a big picture of the main band. There will be small pictures along the side to suggest what is on the other pages. There will be charts down one side like the Billboard magazine. The double page spread will have one big picture of the band then small pictures of them around it with the writing underneath. There will be small pictures of each member of the band as well as as small pictures of all three of them.

The target audience will be late teens early twenties. Although most pop magazines are aimed at 11-15 year olds, my magazine is going to have an older and more sophisticated style to it. After doing research on magazines like Billboard I have found that pop magazines can have an older look to them. This will be my target audience because I feel that people around that age will be able to connect better with my magazine and that it will interest them more than 11-15 year olds. The colour scheme suggests that it is aimed at an older audience, along with the layout of the magazine.

Deconstructions - Double Page Spread

Reflection

After looking at existing pop music magazines double page spread I have decided that I will keep some of the codes and conventions but also challenge some.

I will keep the code of the title of the article at the top of the page and will use that in my pop music magazine. I will also challenge the one main colour theme and will have three main colours on the double page spread. I will do this because I feel that it will make my page easier to identify and help it to fit in with the colour scheme of my pop music magazine.

I will challenge the convention of the dominant picture across both pages and will have many sub images. I think that this will better appeal to my target audience as they will see more pictures of them and feel like they get to now the band better.

Deconstructions - Contents Page

Reflection
While looking at these contents pages I have noticed that many of the contents pages have pictures as well as text.
I will challenge the conventions by using more sophisticated colours like light purple and blue. This will appeal more to my target audience and challenge the convention that all pop music magazines use bright colours.
I like the use of pictures on the contents page and will use this in my magazine. I will use the code that the words 'Contents Page' are written big on the top of the page, this will help my target audience of late teens early twenties to easily identify my pop music magazine.

Deconstructions - Front Covers

Reflection

Many codes and conventions used in these pop music magazines I will challenge. I will change the way that my mast head looks to make it appeal more to my target audience of older teenagers. I am going to use one dominant image like these three magazines, to attract the attention of my target audience. I didn't like all of the cover lines on the front covers so I will change it to make the page look less cluttered.
