Double Page Spread

This is my final double page spread. I have made all of the columns the same distance from the bottom as suggested in my feedback and I have made all my pictures in line with each other so that the pictures don't look out of place, this was also suggested in my feedback. I have used the codes and conventions of the genre as well as using a band that is the same age as my primary target audience as I believe that this will appeal to my target audience.
Contents Page
This is my final contents page. I have changed the colour of the title and the message from the editor, as suggested in my feedback, to make it more visible and easier to read as well as helping it to fit more into the pop genre. I believe that this will appeal to my target audience of late teens early twenties.
Front Cover
This is my final front cover. I have changed the colour of the quote, price and tag line. I have done this because this is what the feedback that I have got has said to do. I think that it now fits with the pop theme and the colours are more 'pop' related. I believe that this will appeal to my target audience.

Double Page Spread Article
Our Life - The First Interview
The new group Our Life, made up of friends Sophie, James and Luke topped the charts this week with their debut song ‘Where we are’.
The new band rose to fame after being picked up from singing in local pubs. Lead singer Sophie said ‘We started off just singing for fun but then realised that it was something that we all wanted to do so thought why not try it and see if we get somewhere with it’. Guitarist James and Drummer Luke aged 17 and 16 both realised that music was what they wanted to do from a very young age. They were both brought up in very musical families and music is something they are both very passionate about.
Sophie, 16, was introduced to music at the age of 11 in a school music lesson. It was then she realised that she really liked it and began to have singing lessons at school. From then she entered talent competitions and won many competitions which included the school talent show and then went on to represent the school in the district talent show. She was also a lead singer in the choir and the schools many musicals.
The three friends all met in music class but it wasn't until they began to do some course work for their music GCSE that they realised that they worked well as a group. They then went on to get A’s in their music GCSE. The group began to play concerts together and gradually rose to singing in local pubs.
It was by singing at these local pubs that a record label found them and signed them. The record label said ‘We think we have found the next big band here and we are glad to be working with them’. ‘It was completely out of the blue’ said James, 17, ‘they just came up to us and said your good, do you want a record deal’. ‘We were so surprised’ added Luke, 16.
They say that they are lucky that someone took a chance on them at such a young age and it proves that they were right to do so as many stars including Shawn Mendes, The Vamps and Beyonce have shown an interest in working with them. The group says ‘We are honoured to have such well respected artists wanting to work with us’.
‘Our Life’ will begin their UK tour at the end of this year, starting in London, followed by a tour around Europe next year. The group are currently working on their debut album ‘US’ which includes their debut single ‘Where we are’, is due to be released at the end of the month.

Reflection on what I have leant from this
I have learnt a lot by completing the front cover and contents page of our school magazine, ‘Astley Weekly’. I have learnt how to use photoshop to get the best picture possible.
I already knew how to put a picture onto photoshop and blur things out of the picture. This helped a bit when we needed to blur out some of the bottom of the pole as it had a mark on it that draw the audiences attention away from the sign post.
I have developed many different skills while creating the two different pages. I learnt how to remove the background of some writing so the main image can be shown behind it. This is a skill that I have transferred and used when making my final pop music magazine. I have also learned how to turn the writing different colours which i also transferred into making my pop music magazine. The main skill I learnt was how to cut something out of an image and move it to another image. This skill i used a lot in making both ‘Astley Weekly’ and my pop music magazine.
Double Page Spread
This is the first draft of my double page spread, I have kept to the same colour scheme as the contents page but varied it a little bit to keep my target audience interested and to stop it from all looking the same.
Feedback on Product
Front cover
The magazine name stands out which I like as well as having the main image as the whole background. I like how the title of the article is a quote too.
You could make ‘First Place for Pop’ stand out more as it isn't as clear as everything else.
- Caitlin
I like the choice of colours. They are bright and fit with the genre really well. The font used for the magazine name also fits the genre and looks good infant of the dominant image.
To improve I think you should change the colour of the price and the sell line to stand out more.
- Sophie
Contents Page
I really like how the images are edited and laid out, with the shadows around them, makes them look more professional. The layout of the pages is also good because it shows what is on each page briefly.
You could change the title colour as it doesn't fit with the rest of the page.
- Caitlin
I really like the layout of the contents page, it is really easy to read and looks very modern. I like that the colour scheme still links with the cover page however the the ‘Contents’ title colour is not easy to read. I think with a different colour for the title the page will look better.
- Sophie
Double Page Spread
The title of the double page spread really stands out on the page. I really like the way the pictures are positioned on the page, with one in the bottom corner next to the main article.
To improve this page you could move the writing up so it is the same distance from the bottom in both columns.
- Caitlin
I like the choice of colours for this page as it fits well with the colour scheme of the contents page and the front cover. The font used for the title is very easy to read and the pictures are in a very organised position.
To improve I think you should make all of the pictures so that they are inline with each other to make the arrangement of pictures look even better.

Dominant and Sub Image Research
By completing this research it will help me to make my own pop music magazine. I have become familiar with how each type of image is used and has given me an idea where I would like to out my images, and how they are arranged in already existing magazines.
